Abstract: OAC and IPLB have presented the second series of studies integrated within the On Reading programme, undertaken in collaboration with Portuguese universities which have pursued localised research projects and fieldwork. As with the first series of studies, the objective is to identify young people’s reading habits in the municipalities under analysis and evaluate the role of agents and institutions involved in the reading process. This study assesses the reading habits developed within a specific (spatial) environment: the Esposende Municipal Library. What are the socio-demographic characteristics of the profile of the library’s users? What are their reading habits in terms of objectives, formats consulted (books, magazines, multimedia etc.) and frequency of use? Which is the weight of reading habits in comparison with other activities developed in the library such as the use of new multimedia technologies? These are some of the questions herein included.
