Abstract:
Considering the need to develop localised studies on reading practices and
operational models of public libraries, OAC and IPLB decided to implement a
research programme, involving final-year graduates of social sciences
courses in Portuguese universities.
The studies published herein provide key indicators on two distinct
territorial situations, with different cultural fields and dynamics crossed
by movements of conflictuality and/or complementarity between the different
agents involved (local associations, municipal councils and institutions,
teaching establishments, cultural creators/producers and public libraries)
in interplay of different combinations of tradition and modernity.
