Abstract:
This
case-study - one of the six integrated in Cascais-Culture Programme -
analyses Cascais public libraries through their history; organizational
structure; human and financial resources; expenditure they represent to the
municipal council and integration in National Public Libraries Network (RNBP).
This publication also analyses the readers’ profile (local consultation and
domiciliary loan), the initiatives developed by the educative services of
those libraries as well as the cultural animation that they promote.
The last chapter of this publication presents the results of a survey
applied to school and other institutions directors located in São Domingos
de Rana, in order to present a perspective evaluation of the future public
library (inaugurated in 2005, when this study was concluded), namely the
knowledge and opinion about Library’s location, valences, ways of
collaboration and expectations about that equipment
