Abstract: The source for this study is the Survey on public financing of cultural activities by municipal councils carried out since 1986 by the INE. The analytic unit used was the municipality. A database was built including expenditure per year and by sector, complemented by other fields containing variables such as economic classification, habitat (Urban/Rural); location (Coast/Interior); illiteracy rate; population density; population size; majority political party.
