Abstract: The Programme "Diffusion of Performing Arts" was launched by Instituto Português das Artes do Espectáculo, through its Department for Diffusion and De-centralization, and carried out between 2000 and 2002 in several municipalities of Portugal (excluding Islands). This study provides an evaluation of the Programme impacts through the breakdown of the agents involved (entities that propose the productions, artistic entities, as well as Municipal Councils); the artistic performances (sessions and spectators), and the geographical distribution of cultural offer and demand in the framework of the Programme. The educative component (audience formative ateliers) is also object of analysis. The procedures and instruments adopted by the Programme during its existence constitute one of the evaluation lines in this case-study focused on the political measure that points to cultural de-centralization.
