Políticas Culturais Europeias (I) [European Cultural Policies (I)]

Abstract: A presentation and commentary on themes looked at in a publication of ERICarts, Cultural Policies in Europe: a compendium of basic facts and trends brings together profiles of 14 countries participating in the European Programme on National Cultural Policy Reviews (European Council), among which is Portugal. National definitions of culture, priorities of cultural policy, recent questions and debates in the same area - these are the themes examined here, and they reveal a certain asymmetry between the various countries represented, which does not emerge when the "standard language" of the respective reports is used.

Ambiente e natureza na televisão em Portugal [Environment and nature in Portuguese television]

Abstract: A study and analysis of television programming on the environment and nature from the beginning of Portuguese television (RTP, 1957) until the present. News and non-news programmes were analysed according to format indicators (month, year, channel, time, frequency, place, duration, type of programme or news report) and content indicators. The development of the analysis took three lines (relative, comparative and exploratory) and revealed, in the non-news programmes, a double environmental debate, in topical terms - the local and global debate - and in evaluative terms - from the educational and fun to the negative/alarmist and regulating. In news programmes an evolution in the instrumental relations and in enjoyment/leisure for the relations of crisis, conservation/defence is highlighted.

Uma coreografia da dúvida (entrevista a João Fiadeiro) [A choreography of doubt (interview with João Fiadeiro)]

Abstract: The interview of the Portuguese choreographer João Fideiro revealed as central the various meanings that the expression "the crossing of territories" can acquire - like, for example, the articulation between national and international contexts as part of artistic careers, or the crossing of languages and artistic expressions. This interview also provided an occasion for reflection on an artistic trajectory in the first person.

Desescolarizar as bibliotecas? [Libraries beyond school?]

Abstract: Working on results from the 2nd series of research into reading habits, it is important to rethink the role of libraries in relation to young people, where the instrumental use of this facility is well distinctive. The exchange between public libraries and school libraries is quite important for the promotion of joint actions and strategies, creating spaces that attempt to "get away from" the obligations of the school culture. If empirical information points to instrumental and selective reading, nothing should impede active and imaginative actions to diversify the gateways to the many reading universes.

Leituras Juvenis em sete cidades europeias [Young people’s reading habits in seven European cities]

Abstract: According to information resulting from enquiries carried out among students, promoted by the literary prize Grinzane Cavour in several European cities, the symbolic prestige of reading and a certain fragility of fixed reading habits among the young were found to exist simultaneously. Beyond the comparative character of the study on an international level, it is also interesting to note that there are perceptible differences between boys and girls.
