Maria de Lourdes Lima dos Santos
Title Abstract: Some time ago, in sessions with master’s degree students in the ICS and ISCTE, when addressing recent transformations in the processes of production, distribution and consumption of cultural goods and services, the author found that it was indispensable to spend more time reflecting upon the relationship between the cultural industries sector and other cultural sectors, that are normally designated as the classical or traditional sector, and the "avant-garde" or experimental sector. In this debate, the diffuse nature of the so-called "cultural industries" always acts as an obstacle. Today the effectiveness of a similar notion, such as the creative content industry, which is now more in vogue, continues to be doubtful, as was the case three years ago when the author wrote a few reflections to be introduced in her debates with the aforementioned master’s degree students. As a result she decided to review the text produced at the time and publish it here to the readers of OBS. Pages: 2-4 |

Title Abstract: Within the framework of collaboration between OAC and IPLB and with the co-operation of several Universities, three research programmes were prepared, based on the methodology of case-studies, aiming to map specific situations over a continuous period of time within the panorama of Portuguese institutions and reading practices. It was thus decided to launch this project via three research topics: a survey of the cultural offer in the municipalities of Guimarães and Mirandela; study of young people’s reading habits in Coimbra and surrounding municipalities; a monograph on Beja Municipal Library. The present article focus on a couple that is often analysed in this research: the library and its users. We apply, whenever possible, a comparative perspective that will help us in the never ending task of reformulating our analytic frameworks of cultural practices. Pages: 7-10 |
